Subject: The Diminishment of the College Experience at City College
I’m writing to inform you that the City college experience is being drastically diminished for students given the circumstances of the coronavirus pandemic. The College is not doing enough to retain the traditional factors that attract students to universities such as the social aspects throughout the global pandemic. The college experience at this college is completely diminished and virtually non-existent.
The college has made several decisions that have caused students to be shunned away such as discontinuing sporting activities , social clubs and even access to the library. These activities are crucial to the college experience as well as to the wellbeing of students which should be at the forefront of decisions made by the college and even the government as well. For example, discontinuing sporting events which has always been a major attraction for students has caused diminished spirit in students as these activities were always seen as a major way to destress and have fun. Though the pandemic has been bad, other in person aspects of the college experience were retained and this should be retained as well. Without a way to destress, student grades would undoubtedly drop and this can be seen happening already.
Social clubs such as chess and even gaming clubs are popular ways for students to destress as well and have been created in the past for this very same reason. Additionally, the library is a primary resource for students to accomplish their main purpose or reason for even paying tuition to a attend school which is to get an education or to learn.
As the pandemic goes on, more effort should be put into getting more resources for clubs and social events for students so that students can find healthier ways to have recreation as well as to preserve the college experience.
Please let me know if you have any questions. In the meantime, I’d appreciate your cooperation .
